Professional Experience In India

• Lecturer – Prof. V. J. Laheri – Orthopaedics (K.E.M. Hospital)
  This post involved independent management of all types of orthopaedic cases including complex trauma, arthroplasties, arthroscopy, spine surgery, paediatric orthopaedics, etc. on an elective and emergency basis. My consultant had a special interest in spine surgery and I thus got an exposure to management of post infective kyphosis, craniovertebral anomalies, spinal deformities, infective pathologies etc. As this was a full time teaching post, I was involved actively in the organisation of Symposia, Seminars, Workshops, postgraduate and undergraduate academic sessions.
• Lecturer – Prof. R. N. Katre – Orthopaedics (R. N. Cooper Hospital)
  During my brief tenure with Prof. R. N. Katre as a lecturer, I was independently managing all types of orthopaedic cases including complex trauma stabilisations, spinal surgeries and paediatric orthopaedics. Undergraduate and Postgraduate academic sessions were also an integral part of this post.
• Sr. Resident (Registrar) – Dr. M. G. Yagnik / A. N. Johari – Paediatric Orthopaedics (B.J. Wadia Hospital for Children)
  This post provided me with general exposure to all aspects of paediatric orthopaedics viz. congenital anomalies, neuromuscular diseases, spinal deformities etc.I had a chance to operate both independently and supervised a wide range of cases including DDH, Perthes, CTEV, neglected/post trauma sequelae, deformity correction and limb lengthening using monoplanar and circular external fixators.This post gave me an opportunity to participate in the management of neuromuscular conditions like polio, arthrogryposis and cerebral palsy both by bracing and corrective surgery.
• 4^th Year Resident (Registrar) – Dr. K.R. Manelkar – Orthopaedics (K.E.M. Hospital)
  During my tenure as a Senior Registrar in Dr. Manelkar’s Unit, I had a chance to operate on as well as assist in the management of complex trauma cases utilising the AO principles and other cases which Included THR, TKR, Knee Arthroscopy and spinal surgeries. This was besides the independent management of all types of emergency trauma work conservative and operative.
• 3^rd Year Resident (Registrar) – Dr. P. B. Bhosale – Orthopaedics (K.E.M.) Hospital
  During my Registrar’s post in Dr. Bhosale’s Unit, I had a chance to extensively use the Ilizarov ring fixator for the management of nonunions, tumour reconstructions, deformity corrections etc. Besides being responsible for the management of all types of trauma cases – internal and external fixations, I also had a chance to independently operate on other orthopaedic cases, which included paediatric disorders, degenerative spinal disorders, etc. On call rota 1:4 with prospective cover and regular assessments to monitor progress.
• 2nd Year Resident (Registrar) – Prof. R. N. Katre – Orthopaedics (R. N. Cooper Hospital)
  As a 2nd Year Resident at the R. N. Cooper Hospital in Dr. Katre’s Unit, I was involved in the operative and conservative management of trauma cases using the AO techniques and equipment. An active participation in the planning and management of all types of orthopaedic/trauma cases including reconstructive and hand surgeries was an integral part of this post.
• 2^nd Year Resident (SHO) – Prof. C. V. Patel – General Surgery (K.E.M. Hospital)
  During my three months tenure in General Surgery, I had a chance to closely observe and participate in critical care management as well as other common general surgical cases including abdominal, head and chest trauma. On rota 1:4 with prospective cover, responsible for acute admissions and accident and emergency cover.
• 2^nd Year Resident (SHO) -Prof. R. E. RANA – Plastic Surgery (K.E.M. Hospital)
  The plastic surgery department at the K.E.M. Hospital handles hand and micro vascular reconstructive work besides other routine plastic surgery cases and working therefor three months gave me exposure to all aspects of reconstructive and micro vascular surgery as applicable to orthopaedics. On call rota 1:3, responsible for acute admissions when on call including burns.
• 1^st Year Resident (SHO) -Dr. S.Y.Bhojraj – Spine Surgery Unit (K.E.M. Hospital)
  Working for six months under Dr. S.Y.Bhojraj at the Spine Surgery Unit gave me a wide exposure to all types of routine and complex spinal surgeries including degenerative diseases, infection, and tumour reconstructions, deformity corrections and traumatic conditions via both the anterior and posterior approaches. Operative work included supervised trauma fixations using the AO methods besides minor cold cases.
• 1^st Year Resident (SHO) – Prof. M.N. Shahane – Orthopaedics (K.E.M. Hospital)
  My first six months of residency were spent in learning the basic principles of orthopaedics including closed reduction, conservative methods of trauma management, emergency and routine ward management – a foundation on which I based my subsequent training. The on call rota was 1:4 with prospective cover. I was involved in all the trauma admissions, both adult and paediatrics. In the absence of a dedicated accident and emergency department; acute casualty cover (on call) is provided by orthopaedic and general surgery residents in rotation.
